Jim’s Restaurant is an east-end greasy spoon dive that John and I have been frequenting for years, mainly for their cheap all day breakfasts.
Unlike most establishments in our neighbourhood, Jim’s has remained relatively unchanged for decades. You’ll find the same pleasantly grumpy waitresses, serving the same rough-around-the-edges, no-bullshit clientele. No organic, tofu, gluten-free, vegan options here. No bells or whistles. Just good food and good coffee.
The other day we made a point of stopping into Jim’s for dinner. Why it took us this long, I can’t be sure. But I’m glad we did. Similar to breakfast, Jim’s dinner menu is basic and tasty. We shared roast chicken, some greek salad, and a side of feta poutine (it does exist and it’s damn good). Everything, actually, was perfectly prepared and cheap. Cheap cheap cheap.
