Originally I had envisioned us playing checkers with a little old man at one of those permanent chess tables installed at a nearby church or something. That would have been pretty cool. I like chatting with old people — they always have fascinating stories to tell.
Unfortunately we didn’t have the time yesterday to make it happen. Instead, we darted out for a quick lunch break, bought a miniature checkers board from the dollar store for $1.69, and enjoyed an afternoon in the park — just us.
After the game we practiced our juggling skills (another to-do on the list). John’s pretty much got it down — I’ve still got serious work to do.
Your grandfather was a very good checkers player.
I could never beat him.
