66) Make a protein shake 22 Mar 2012

Having just returned from a rigorous couple’s workout sesh (short form for session in aerobics lingo), I am feeling completely energized, keen, focused and ready to delve into a month of intensive training in preparation for our next big adventure (more about that in later posts).

Our couple’s training will include: morning power walks to the Don River before work; backyard workout sessions to Missy Elliot; bike rides to the suburbs; well-balanced meals; and a daily protein shake to build and retain our muscles.

We. Are. Pumped.

PS: John doesn’t know yet, but I found one of those fuzzy aerobics headbands for him for tomorrow’s sesh. :)

John & Laura’s Banana Protein Shake

(makes 1 serving)

1 banana
1 cup of milk
1 scoop of whey protein powder
1/4 of yogurt
3-4 drops of vanilla extract
1 tsp maple syrup
2 ice cubes

You must read “The Paleo Solution” by Robb Wolf. It argues that we should be eating like cavemen. Honestly, I’ve never felt better. Grains are killing you, as are dairy, and legumes. He provides biological and anthropological evidence for how every disease that consumes us today is a result of the agricultural revolution from about 10 000 years ago. Paul – I’ve heard about this in passing. I will look into it. There always seems to be new evidence about the next best thing in health science. It’s hard to keep up. Call me a traditionalist, but I’m a firm believed that a well-balanced meal is the way to go.
